Appletree Foil Board Size Guide
All Appletree boards are built from 100% carbon fibre with 50K closed-cell foam — the stiffest, lightest construction in the market. This guide covers the two core boards we stock: the Appleslice V4 and the Skipper Midlength.

| Ability | Rider weight | Recommended volume | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Under 80kg | 90–100L | Stable planing hull; max forgiveness on water starts and touchdowns |
| Beginner | 80kg+ | 100–115L | Floating volume means you won't sink on the surface in light wind |
| Intermediate | Under 75kg | 70L | The V4 sweet spot — performance + stability, sinker/floater crossover |
| Intermediate | 75–90kg | 80L | Enough volume to float and assist takeoffs, still agile on foil |
| Advanced | Under 65kg | 50–60L | Maximum reactivity, carving, and freestyle performance |
| Advanced | 65–80kg | 60–70L | High-performance sinker; great surf foil crossover and Foil Drive use |
| Advanced | 80kg+ | 70–80L | Still a sinker at this weight; excellent range and low-wind performance |
Skipper Midlength — The One-Board Quiver
Winging · Prone Foiling · Parawing · Foil Assist · DownwindA narrower, displacement hull shape built for speed and early takeoff. Slender per volume, it gets onto foil earlier than an equivalent V4, making it exceptional in lighter winds and marginal conditions. Ideal for intermediate to advanced riders, or beginners who want to grow into a performance board.

| Ability | Rider weight | Recommended size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Any weight | 87–97L | More volume offsets the narrower shape; consider the V4 if you want more width stability |
| Intermediate | Under 70kg | 5'9" – 67L | Displacement hull gets onto foil earlier; great all-round wing and parawing size |
| Intermediate | 70–90kg | 6'0" – 77L | Best all-round size for winging, prone, and parawing in a wide range of conditions |
| Intermediate | 90kg+ | 6'4" – 87L | Extra length aids light-wind takeoffs; narrow shape still feels lively on foil |
| Advanced | Under 65kg | 5'3" – 47L | High-performance sinker for prone foiling and experienced wingers in stronger winds |
| Advanced | 65–80kg | 5'6" – 57L | Excellent for prone, foil assist, and advanced winging in varied conditions |
| Advanced | 80kg+ | 5'9" – 67L | A 67L at this weight is a sinker; super agile and fast in the right hands |
Appleslice V4 vs Skipper Midlength
Not sure which board?Choose the Appleslice V4 if you're new to winging, you ride in choppier or heavier conditions, you want a stable platform to learn on, or you're looking for a do-everything beginner-to-intermediate board. Its planing hull is wider per volume and more forgiving on the surface.
Choose the Skipper Midlength if you want maximum light-wind performance, you prone foil or parawing, you're using a foil assist system (Foil Drive compatible), or you want one board that covers surf, wing, and downwind in all conditions. The displacement hull gets onto foil earlier — but it's narrower, so the surface handling takes some getting used to.
